Did your parents ever apologise later on or did/do they still think it was perfectly acceptable?
My 12 year old son has had 2 tastes of my aggression in his life, both slaps on the leg and I use more force patting the dog than I used on him.
I felt bad but I knew that I had only hurt his pride and his memory of it lasted about 5 years.
After the second time I told him that I wouldn't do it again as he was too old to be spanked but he would suffer loss of privileges. More effective any day.
