na mate - that's only religion (and only some of them) - take on marriage at 'some' points in history - the vast bulk of that was nothing to do with it.

Marriage was used and is used throughout history by different groups to suit their agenda - just like it's being now - nothing has changed in that.

and, the word 'traditional' -- is also manipulated by people - who pick a time in history where the 'tradition' suits what they are trying to do at the time - they neatly sidestep whatever it was in earlier times - or later times.

There can be an argument for stability of children in 'families' - but, then - it depends on the definition of 'family' - it all comes down to definitions and beliefs.

If we didn't have such beliefs of ' mum and dad in marriage (as we know it) - as the 'right' thing - then any kids waddling off to school with any loving parent or parents or gardians or whatever - whatever gender or however many - wouldn't have any problems with fitting in

the problems come not from - 'different' arrangements - the problems come from a narrow view of what is acceptable.

So - the easiest way to solve the problem is to kill off the limited 'acceptable' arrangements.

I think we have to realise that what we know as 'normal' was a normal that was defined by and large by power and control vested interest groups - who, we now know, are massive abusers -- and of children at that.

Why in the name of god would we want to continue a system invented by the biggest child abusers in history????

Those same people whose organisations went to war sprouting - 'in the name of God' --- yeah, yeah - ok, thanks for that

Look at the history -------- of all the groups that have held sway in the world throughout history - there are a couple of groups that we really should be well shot of --

1. Organised religious groups

2. Kings and Queens

Follow them throughout the history books and you get pages after pages of blood -

IMO, they should be given the respect they deserve ---------------------- NIL.

Agreed in the old world marriage was used to expand or shore up empires , dynasties - even so the offspring were essential to maintain control , so the end game was family , heirs

I would rather live with our religious roots as flawed as they have been to living with Islam ( which has no respect for gay couples , or women for that fact )

If this was all about 2 people being together i would most likely agree - however i don't think any group has researched deeply enough into this and the most likely outcomes - it has been rushed to satisfy 2/3% of a very vocal and bullying minority who are well placed amongst our media
