Peak2Peak, sorry to have to inform you this but your belief that marriage
in Australia is confined to the church. The reality is that most Australians(a majority)
now opt for a Civil marriage that does not involve the church. Sounds you may adhere to Fundamentalist religion which most people don’t abide by and just well because many parts of the Bible which was written by a variety of MEN are unacceptable in todays wiser society. Most Christians now practice birth control etc something that has been prohibited for a long time by Christian churches.
No-one is asking Christians to change their beliefs. I am a Christian and my beliefs won’t alter if same sex marriage is introduced. However, individuals even view Christianity differently. No-one has a mortgage on their version as being the right one. In fact different Christian denominations have different practices eg celibacy, ordination of women etc.
People can continue to hold whatever beliefs they wish within the secular law of the land.
If SSM is introduced through secular democracy, heterosexual’s will continue to enjoy their Christian beliefs which they apply to themselves and heterosexuals can also continue to opt for Civil marriages the latter being the majority option according to official figures.
The fears being put by some pushing the no case are unfounded.
