If you look at how the patients responded to the initial UPDRS scores and then the motor only component they are using now you can get a feel for how much better they felt after a modest improvement in motor function. Those overall scores were around twice as good which included their self assessments on Quality of Life. I think its because when you go from not being able to talk to having intelligible speech, that ability to communicate makes a massive improvement to your level of independence. That lady can now use a telephone for instance.

Sometimes very little can mean a lot, and maintaining independence is worth far more than the treatment will cost.
