    Thats an interesting point about people married in other countries which have legalised same sex marriage.

    I wonder whether under our current law if a same sex couple married in the UK or Canada or the USA or NZ applied to migrate here as a couple or as a family would they be recognised as already married or not.

    If they ticked the box married in a visa application would a marriage under the law of another country be acceptable.
    Maybe it is and that is why Tony Abbott’s sister has said according to the media said she lacked “confidence in our federal leaders to get this done" so, as a contingency, she and her partner had booked a marriage ceremony inside the British consulate at Circular Quay in February."
