I don't think this is all of a sudden JL as gay activism and repeal of medieval laws started many years ago but the 60's is when it really took off on the back of Vietnam War era protests. Most of us just ignored it as it didn't affect us but slowly reformists became more organised and came out of their closets.
One of the reasons I voted yes is so we can just move on as this issue has caused so much division in our society a simple passing of legislation in parliament would have barely gotten any attention. Whichever way the result goes the LNP will be seriously damaged and as it's not binding expect bitter reactions from the losing side who won't uphold the surveys outcome.
