c. in the US - which is probably a more accurate comparison than Europe and Japan -

the systems work quite well - but, the goldfields run 24/7 --------- pumped systems require using EXCESS capacity in off peak times --

the goldfields industries - the big users don't have an off peak --

so - where and when would the excess come from?
