It's a form of appearance. So the owner of land (or capital) believes he has earned the perpetual income stream owed to that asset. He has earned the future labour potential of others who need the use of this asset. Look at @jantimot's explosion at the suggestion of an Unconditional Basic Income or UBI. As an owner of land he feels entitled to the use of the labour potential of others who he feels that he has earned power over. The owner of capital reckons that others owe him labour. The very notion a UBI feels like a threat to the owed source of labour that the capitalist feels entitled to.
