All this study does is looks at the most optimistic possibility of avoiding 1.5 degrees and says that it may be possible. IF we really ramp up our efforts. And other scientists have already pointed out flaws in the study. As your own article acknowledges.

As always I am impressed with the amount of money the Koch brothers (et al) are willing to pay journalists and others to write what they want. And how dumb those articles become.
