I would have understood your shorthand if you had said 238. This refers to the atomic weight, which is what I'm more familiar with. This can describe isotopic speciation.
92 refers to the number of protons in the nucleus. There is also 92 electrons and variable number of neutrons. The atomic weight is the summation of all these components.
For instance, many would refer to Carbon as either Carbon 12 or Carbon 14 - atomic weight. Anyway, there are many ways to communicate a point.
