Kimberly/Pilbara is one of the most cyclone prone areas in the world.
Note last season, WA had no cyclones make landfall. However the Kimberly had its wettest summer on record and floods caused much damage in the Kimberly and Pilbara. It was all caused by tropical lows.
The long term average of cyclones forming in the Australian region is 11, with four making landfall. However there has been a steady decline over the past few decades. The average number of storms forming since 2000 is closer to nine.
