Good Evening 4profit,
Will SAS disrupt the business model of the likes of Iridium? Absolutely. There are many reasons for this conclusion. Firstly SAS chose a specific region that the big communication coys have chosen to ignore. SAS did not chose this region by accident. Will it cost Iridium money - yes it will. A big coy such as Iridium can not simply change their model overnight. This will require major adjustments and by then SAS will be miles in front. In fact they are setting the pace which is extremely important to be the first if you want to disrupt anything. SAS is as MM says 'lean and mean' which gives them the agility to adjust themselves to what ever is needed.
As an example of another industry take Airbnb. They have most definitely disrupted the hospitality industry.
Take Uber which disrupted the transportation industry.
Are the big companies probably revaluation their approach and choices - well if they don't they should be.
Did the big hotel chain stop them? We all know the answer.
We are living at a time that what was amazing a few years ago can now be obsolete due to the extreme fast pace of change. These changes will only get faster and faster.
It's anyone's guess what will happen regarding 'buy out' if that is what you are referring to. My personal view is that this is not an option in the immediate future. They still have a lot to accomplish.
I hope i answered your questions.
