Government involvement and support is an interesting topic. After all, almost all of the electricity generation and distribution capacity in this country was built by governments.
Call me old fashioned, but I firmly believe that if GDY can prove this resource is a goer of the size that has been suggested, Governments will actually back this project in a big way. This is a huge prize! Just imagine where it places Australia in the carbon debate. Just imagine what it does for the competitiveness of Australian manufacturing etc in a carbon contrained and priced world!
The proposed carbon trading schemes involve allocating free credits to existing power generators so they wont feel the effect of the cost of carbon for a very long time. If you are going to subsidise the continued use of dirty brown coal, you will be forced to help out the cleaner greener and more sustainable non-carbon sector.
GDY is a modern day snowy scheme! And it dont steal water from the Murray Darling! Time to buy those copper futures, these are going to be huge DC cables. Pirelli and Siemens must be so excited by the prospect of GDY.
