Further Commercial Developments in Italy
The Telesalute Monitoring Service, a joint venture collaborative established with Medical Monitors, is
in discussion with a number of international pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer Italia and the
Menarini Pharmaceutical Group, to utulise the Italian version of the BPfone monitoring system and
service. Telesalute is focused on being a significant provider of this quality health management program
throughout Italy. This business opportunity is similar to programmes developed and established in
Australia, the UK and the USA by Medical Monitors, and is expected to provide for substantial sales
revenue over the financial year.
Dr Flavio Burgarella, the Telesalute Clinical Director, is a well established and respected specialist
physician involved with European Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Hypertension.
Dr Burgarella has introduced the Telesalute service to clinic s of Cardiology and Obstetrics in the major
centre of Bergamo-Milan. Telesalute is already involved in focus groups with some 750 medical
practitioners in Bergamo-Milan and other main cities of Turin, Venice and Padova, for the better
management of hypertension (high blood pressure) problems.
A recent report, produced by the Department of Public Health and Social Sciences, University of
Uppsala, Sweden, and Outcomes Research, Pfizer, New York, stated that by achieving targets in the
control of blood pressure the European community would save the healthcare systems a total of
€1.26billion. In Italy alone , this would provide an estimated cost savings of €264millions where
hypertension is considered to effect more than 10,000,000 adults.
Governments throughout Europe are providing significant financial support to health departments and
medical clinics to achieve the gaol to reduce the large number of cardiovascular events amongst their
