When Steve Jobs took back over Apple he stripped them down to just four products....The smaller product line, in my opinion, is part of what really helped saved apple. There were able to re-focus the company and become truly "great" for their few product offerings rather than "good" a several products.
Now jump ahead to the Tim Cook era...at the time that he took over they offered 14 products. Now they have ballooned to 27 products (and over 200 versions)!
Spreading themselves too thing. Becoming good not great. Lacking true innovation and now playing catch up.
