Ok, so it's a little complicated, but here goes:
First, convert your barrels of lithium, into barrels of Fun. 'Fun' is the Australian metric standard - You may see this represented as 'Wine' if you are in France, which is the same thing, just with greater liquidity.
The conversion rate is pegged to company performance: If the company involved is widely regarded as 'a joke' than expect the conversion rate to be much lower. The equation is normally represented:
1 BLi = 4.5BF (- 10.5% JL)
1 Barrel of Li = 4.5 Barrels of Fun minus a 10.5% Joke Loading
(4.5 is an arbitrary number derived from differential calculus and exponentiated through the Dewey Decimal system.)
Once you've completed that conversion, you can perform the final translation to Metric Tons very easily, as the Metric measure equals the Fun measure. As they say, 1 Metric ton is a whole ton of Fun, or 1Mt = 1TF.
So, to bring it home, if we substitute in the Mt conversion we arrive at:
1BLi = (4.5BF (x1TF)) - (10.5%JL)
Don't forget to carry the one if you are in the Southern Hemisphere to compensate for gravitational lag, but apart from that, you're all done!
Pretty simple once you know how...
