TransLink rollout set, but testing delayed for train systems

A TransLink single fare card should make it easier to get...

Muni, BART and Caltrain riders will have to wait until spring - or later - to use the regional TransLink fare card because of problems with software needed to run the program, officials said Tuesday.

The transit systems were supposed to be ready to start testing the new payment system in December, but ERG, the company developing the software, has pushed back the deadline to March. It is the latest software-involved delay hampering the $130 million program.

TransLink is designed to link the Bay Area's transit systems with a single fare card to make it easier for passengers who rely on multiple systems to get around.

Meanwhile, AC Transit and the Golden Gate bus and ferry systems are readying for a full-blown rollout of TransLink on Monday. Those operators have been testing the program with a limited number of riders to work out the kinks.
