Your comment, "hope is slowly fading as silicon valley moves towards its own IOT stacks," intrigues me.

Firstly, Silicon Valley is not a single entity with a single protocol stack. Silicon Valley is a group name for multiple tech companies, each with their own, competing and incompatible, protocol stacks.

So if a customer goes to a single source, then yes the preferred stack of that particular vendor will be promoted, and most likely used. I remember as an IBM techo directing customers to a token ring LAN in preference to ethernet because it make it easier for more of our product to connect in future.

But the reality is that many customers will want multi-vendor IOT components and will be faced with the problem of making multiple protocols inter operate (not something individual vendors will have a preference for, or technical capacity to support).

Which brings me to my memories of when cisco was but a lad, and seized the opportunity to create a niche market in connecting / bridging / routing across multiple networks. (See Wikipedia: "it was one of the first to sell commercially successful routers supporting multiple network protocols")

As always, forgetting history, we are doomed to repeat it. I think we have now reproduced an IOT multi-protocol inter-operation conundrum similar to that facing multiple networks late last century. In that environment cisco emerged as a unifying vendor to connect all your different vendors and protocols.

Now this is where I see the opportunity for XPED in the IOT space. They can be the system integrator of choice. They seem to have the technical product and expertise. It will be difficult from little old Adelaide to conquer the world, but when I see their plans to interconnect multiple devices from diverse vendors using different protocols, and provide a central unified point of control, well then, I dare to dream.
