    There is a very thorough and well written article at the link below about 5G;

    The bit about rain is mentioned, note they talk about 200m between cells (towers), thats a bit hard for me to believe is average anywhere, but i guess in a densely populated overseas city.

    Imagine in Australia if we needed towers every 200m, its not going to work in the country, if rain attenuation is a problem at those distances the signal wouldnt even get to the end of the driveway in a lot of farms.

It's true that millimetre wave will attenuate in rain, a phenomenon that has caused disruption in the financial services industry in the past, where millimetre wave bands are used to carry high-frequency trading data between financial services' datacentres. According to a paper by NYU academics, the attenuation is in the region of 1.4dB over 200m — the average distance between one cell and the next. In other words, yes, there is attenuation, but it's not really at a high enough level to worry about. Good news for the mobile users of London, then."
