I would take exactly the opposite view point. If I was PM and I was rolled I would take it like this:
I have had my chance at pursuing my agenda
The party gave the chance to be PM and they have the right to take it away.
I would FREE my backers to suport the new direction of the Party and Resign
I would campaign to the best of my ability to have my party returned
