Waikato in particular have been struggling with patient flow for a while and are trying everything to resolve the issue:

"Waikato Hospital was at capacity today and warning people to only go to its Emergency Department if it was a "real emergency".
Elective surgeries other than cancer or other emergency type surgeries were also cancelled today as the hospital dealt with the overflow of patients.
Patients slept on beds in the corridors of the ED on Monday night as there were no beds left in the wards."

"DHB director of hospital services Brett Paradine said the hospital had invested $4.4 million in hiring new ED staff, including five senior doctors and seven junior doctors. Twelve additional nurses will be added, too. The department's roster now includes about 37 full-time equivalent doctors and 106 nurses.
Easing pressure on the hospital's ED also requires improvements to how patients progress through the hospital system, Paradine said. A "patient flow" programme has been initiated to get patients admitted to wards more quickly for treatment."

"Over three days last week, a team of 12 Waikato DHB staff including nurses, ward receptionists, bed managers and doctors worked together to solve a hospital patient flow problem using a facilitated Rapid Improvement Event approach.

The workshop is just one of the projects at Waikato DHB to improve the way patients move through the hospital, making it a better experience for patients and more efficient for staff in the hospital."

Surely with all their issues, Miya Patient Flow could easily kill a few birds with one stone - improve digitisation as the NZ government have mandated, and improve patient flow...
