You know, once upon a time I would have tended to agree that platform providers would not be interested in owning / funding content creation for their platforms.
But now you have Youtube, Amazon, Netflix, Apple and Facebook all starting to become production houses.
My take on it now is that anything is possible. These platforms are content hungry and they want their offering to be the broadest and most unique - acquiring a first mover like BIG could easily be an option for them to lock in and secure a major market, tapping SME's for advertising and creating a dedicated geo-driven content channel that is relevant to where you are right now.
