ok damien, try this approach, study and do some research on some shares, have a goal to spend say $500 per month, buy some shares.........maybe buy something in an industry you are familiar with..........and do something similar regarding property, ie have an each way bet........even if its something as simple as saving the money towards an investment property..........as for the shares you will experience the real thing, even if it is only 500pm.........and take it from there
I started about 40, took money /profit from real estate. bought $20,000 davnet shares at .20, broker harassed me to sell (knew I was a newbie) sold at a loss of $4000, I was devastated, the share price went onto $6.50 a year or so later..........so if I had held and stuck to my plan I would have made $650,000...........
I did get back into davnet, without my broker and traded them, but the loss of confidence from that inital loss, made me depressed and conservative,,,,,,,,imagine I did not get excited by the huge sum I could have made, at that time..........by the time of the 2000 share tech crash, I was lucky enuff to have some funds left to buy into property. I bought about 10 properties over 2 years, sold half of them for about 300-400 % profits, still sitting on 4 properties, with a value now of over 2 mill, mv about 4 times what I paid...........probably averaged about $500,000 pa from property, and u can use property to borrow funds to invest more in the stockmarket.........
but for a newbie, I would suggest you try the regular amount per month, and see how you progress.......

currently have about $100,000 in the stock market, enjoy the stress, but would never sell the property and put it all in the stockmarket..........I feel safer with my bricks and mortar investment.........plus it earns a 6 figure sum pa and should continue to grow...plus capital growth.....
others here will disagree with my strategy, ie u can make a lot of money from the stockmarket, but I feel safer with most of my money in property, all depends on your tolerance of risk versus reward etc
