Any major rollouts of bank issued cards must take into account security for contactless and NFC for mobile.
All terminals will have to be NFC enabled, insecure RFID style chips will not be incorporated.
Keycorp would be closer than anyone to be able to comply with requirements. Scale will come into it but most of the manufacture is now outsourced anyway.
Proprietary transport cards will be outgunned and
phased out in favour of the large financial network isssued more generally acceptable cards like PayPass.
Keycorp's Taiwan MoneyCard would seem to be the model here just as there dual combi card would seem to be the model for future smart cards issued by finance bodies as seen by Garanti Bank, Taiwan and the recent Sth Korean order.
The election here should shift the market, trials in the new year with NFC and a general push by Mastercard should all push Keycorp's business.
