Westpac's 10% shareholding of the ERG has probably put them in first position to start using smartcards in the Banking environment. Security being such a big emphasis in todays Information age it is inevitable that the banks will be going for this sort of technology. ERG seems to be a good choice as they lead the market in smart cards.
