If i do a course on statistics, will they teach me to 'copy past from the ACCC's website' properly ?
It is curious the TPG's reported numbers are going up, iiNet's very slightly falling and NBN market share going down, it cant keep doing that. (and iiNet is half TPM's customer base, so they shouldnt be excluded from your numbers)
TPG targeting ADSL areas specifically because of the higher margin might be one explanation, but why wouldnt they do that with iiNet as well. They could also be trying to delay customers migrating from ADSL to NBN (there is an 18 month window), but that is a dangerous strategy as it leaves competitors the opportunity to take advantage of this churn event.
Looking at some numbers again, 'copy paste' from Annual reports
Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 1 TPM NBN ADSL/Other Total 2 FY17 561 1375 1936 3 FY16 276 1592 1868 4 285 -217 68 5 103.64% We really shouldn't argue about total growth percentages, we need to keep to the specifics
Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 1 Vocus NBN ADSL/Other Total 2 FY17 178 369 547 3 FY16 68 460 528 4 110 -91 19 5 103.60%
So maybe TPG is going for $ rather than consumers, Vocus didnt have that fat margin that TPM/TLS gets on ADSL as Vocus customers are pretty much all off-net (AFAIK), so there is no reason to delay migration.
Still, in the long term everything has to translate to NBN market share, so im glad Vocus doesn't have that dilemma of possibly sacrificing future customers for better margins now.
