BW; i was just thinking the other day how Australian inventions have had to go overseas to get a real start. You mentioned Hills Hoist and the Victa. However one close to my field is the crash data recorder (black box). It was a product that no-body wanted to pursue here as they thought it was not needed, it had to go overseas to get acceptance. Now it is fitted by law to all commercial airliners. Cochlear was another that coped alot of flack in the early stages.
