Hi Billbub, I bit the bullet at the time and paid the CGT to hold the BIP shares as the restructure value exceeded my cost base. The scheme price was US$20.27 per BIP share and it was a CGT event whether I held or sold. There has since been a 3 for 2 share split and share price is currently US$43.90. They have been paying regular divs, now sitting around 4% (US$1.74/share). If my arithmetic is correct I think a 2.3c capital return here would be equivalent to about 6 cents per BIP held now.
Continuing to hold has made up for some of my worse judgement calls, although I had reduced my BEPPAs by 50% in the panic stage toward the end....
