Gold isn’t always weak over Xmas. I recall back in the late seventies it shot up from about $200 to about $800 while I was on leave skiiing in Europe. I’d expected a move, and bought some gold coins and my broker’s pick of the most leveraged gold play he knew of in the world. It turned about to be a spiv Australian explorer which didn’t move. It was a lesson that I continued to ignore until 2008 - brokers are fallible, DYOR.
