We made penny bunger cannons

A pipe was squashed at one end, then a bunger added with the wick out the end and then stuffed with paper and a marble or ball bearing.

I worked well until the closed end blew out one day and a couple of kids almost lost their eyes

Their faces were blackened by a back-blast of gunpowder and soot.
