one of the things needed is a better weather forecasting system. At present BOM simply are not focusing on the correct indicators, and as we saw with this most recent forecast for a La-nina, their criteria for declaring such an event means they will only be able to declare it several months after it has been established, far, far too late. On the other hand as we have also seen this week, there are weather researchers who can accurately and repeatedly predict these events months, or even a year in advance whilst there is still time to prepare for it. One private weather forecaster based in Adelaide charges farmers $600 per year, and those that use him confirm his accuracy. There are subscribers who claim he has saved them 100's of 1000's dollars. If he can get it right, and researchers based in Japan can get it right, why can't BOM?
