For what they're worth my thoughts.
The amount of CO2 released is determined by how much carbon is in the thing being burnt.
I was under the impression the diesel LNK are making releases 30% less CO2 than regular diesel. Great... except they don't tell you how much CO2 is released at the Coal burning gasification stage. Coal is loaded with carbon so it has to release loads of CO2 when it is burnt.
The only benifits I see is that the CO2 must come out of the ground with the UCG gas so therefore if it was to be captured and sequestered then it could be done at that point... expensive but possible. Whereas it is not possible to put a little CO2 capture device at the tail pipe of every regular diesel burning vehicle. The other benifit is the CO2 saved by not having to dig the stuff up in the first place.
May be wrong.
