I've been through a couple of consolidations and I agree - but it depends how long you're in for on a stock. The price seems to often go down around the consolidation time for a while, maybe even months... but at the end of the day the market cap will find it's own level - an expression of (assets - debts) +/- market perception of potential/risk, the number of shares doesn't change that in the long term.
