For those that haven't seen it, I thought I would share the conclusion of the the report "Oral fluid testing for cannabis: On-site OraLine1 IV s.a.t. device versus GC/MS".
Very positive view of the Oraline device vs others. While opiate testing has been around for a while and can show up easily, marijuana is a different beast. From other reports, some devices only detect in a narrow band (i.e. they have a low and a high cut off for detection).
Studies over the last five years have investigated the use of oral fluid as an alternative matrix to blood and/or urine to document drug exposure in addicts, particularly for screening purpose at the roadside for DUID and workplace drug testing. It provides an easily available, non-invasive medium (unlike blood) without the intrusion of privacy (unlike urine), that can be collected under close supervision. However, the detection of cannabis in oral fluid using on-site tests appears to be a very difficult challenge. These preliminary results obtained with the OraLine1 IV s.a.t. device show more encouraging results in comparison with those previously obtained with other on-site devices. However, complementary validation studies are necessary (on-site screening situations during night, controlled studies, evaluation for other drugs of abuse) to verify the accuracy of the device.
