They're only words. All words imply something rather than just negative connotations and humans have no capacity for absolutes, so don't get hung-up on word meanings. We are doing our best to convey a very limited meaning to existance.
You have an aversion to this God business, that's fine, that's you, but you have no tools to explain life itself, sentience, the origin of the atom, what caused a Big Bang like event to coalesce into a universe teaming with life, you look at this universe, its extraordinary cohesion and can only explain so much with science. That which is inexplicable by science is the elephant in the room.
Sure, these gods of mainstream religion and their spin offs are mostly nonsensical, but a Cause exists that will likely remain outside the realms of science forever.
