Franchise systems work better in a fast moving works. Eg technology for loyalty programs and social media advertising etc. Franchisor also trials new products in their company owned stores. For example, Dominoes franchisees have cutting edge technology and product development. This benefit hopefully, on balance, outweighs an independent franchisee getting frustrated wanting to do things their own way. Sometimes, but not always of course, the franchisor knows best, not the franchisee. There is always going to be tension between franchisor and franchisee. Subway currently have issues in the US as the franchisor has dropped price if foot longs to only $5. Franchisees reckon their GP on a foot long is now only $1 !! Same thing happened here with Dominoes pick up pizza specials of $5.
