Apart from shipping, aircraft are on the way, Boeing is even developing commuter Electric, Wright aviation has models in train with committed sales to airlines. They key is energy density - currently new tech is up to 450Whr/KG - the break point will be 1000Wh/Kg.
The other biggie is Trucks - not just semi's - long haul though Tesla and Nickolai are there, as are Volvo and Mercedes . The biggest is short haul delivery vehicles that spend much of their time accelerating or braking under load or idling at traffic signals and would be pressed to travel 100Km in a day - this includes transfer of containers from ports to shipping hubs both city and regional. - save a fortune in fuel and operating costs with regenerative braking
We even have a manufacturer in Australia that scored a $5Mill grant from the Andrews Govt, manufacturing Dandenong and Geelong - also shipping to NZ - have seen a couple on the road doing deliveries
