Tried my first uber ride the other day. Not a good experience. I put in my pick up and destination addresses and the app chose a route that added at least 30% to the distance. This route is what uber base their charge on.
So, I tried to change the route. You can't. I searched for a solution on the web. Turns out this is a very common occurrence. The only way around it is to choose a destination that's closer to your pick up address, then tell the driver of the actual destination and get charged as per the car's odometer.
Very dishonest.
Archilles: I bought just below $3 that, with the $0.80 (ff) "sp divvy" which was really a capital return, gets me down to about what the SP is now. Through that time, the divvy peaked at ~8.2% (ff) to a current ~6.1% (ff), to give me a good, if not exciting, IRR.
I suspect the current divvy will be maintained at around 20c pa (ff), so a DY of over 11% grossed up with franking.
