Think Australia 10-15 years ago...living in a semi rural area, you could only get mobile reception hanging off the back verandah & internet was a disaster unless you had something good in the area. Still a problem for many inspite of NBN even in urban areas.

I see Brazil being similar with such a massive land mass & yes I have been there albeit briefly backpacking, more time through Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Equador & Columbia. Go TV2
