Perhaps you would agree with Andrei Fursov. He says that Marx said at the end of his life that he should have started his great work "Capital" with the state. I disagree however. Marx started with an assumption of perfectly free markets, and only dealt with actually existing capitalism towards the end of volume 1. That is his greatest contribution, I think, as this is how he derived the natural laws of capitalism
