We didn’t even nationally celebrate Jan26 as Australia day until the 1990s. So its not as if its something that has been ingrained in Australian society. Australians want to celebrate an Australia Day but are ambivalent as to what would be the best date to do that. I will celebrate Australia Day on whatever day it is scheduled. Currently its Jan26 so I celebrate it on Jan 26, however if it changed to 1Jan because Australia as a country of federated States was formed on that Day in 1901 that would be fine with me.
