Yes, I fully understand the processes as it is my business and I appreciate where you are coming from.
I have sold into hospitality in UK, Holland, US and OZ/NZ, (and I understand that is just one vertical BIG are targeting), but business owners will not self-promote a digital platform they feel they have paid for.
The first question I was asked every time when we launched an app here 5 years ago "how will you promote it?" They pay for advertising/marketing all the time but do the radio station, newspaper, local TV channel ask the venue to self-promote. That is my point. It is about historical attitudes. Oh, and they get bored!!
Example: Launched a loyalty card in NZ in 2003 and all the restaurants and bars had to do was hand them to customers. Time and time again when our reps visited venues, cards were under the counter collecting dust.
I learnt a valuable lesson. If you want it to work pay for it to be done. Hope I am wrong because that means attitudes are changing and business might get a whole lot easier out there.
