If the COB process works and HAV can come to a commercial arrangement with COB, I believe the answer to be Yes.

From today's ASX release, the aim is to demonstrate the ability of the COB process to perform the following steps on the Mutooroo sample:

1. Concentration and flotation;
2. Pyrolysis (to convert pyrite to pyrrhotite), including production of elemental sulphur; and
3. Cobalt extraction into solution.

Pyrolysis is an alternative to roasting.

Cobalt Blue Process
Thackaringa is essentially a pyrite orebody with the cobalt locked into the crystal lattice.

Historically breaking up the Fe2S meant liberating SO2, which needs to be captured (to avoid acid rain) and converted into H2SO4 (which is obviously expensive to store and transport).

Cobalt Blue has come up with an elegant solution. It is proposing to use decomposition of the Fe2S in an inert atmosphere (no oxygen). So instead of producing SO2 they produce elemental sulphur. The process is called pyrolysis.

This process has been tested on Thackaringa ore at lab scale and it works for recoveries of ~90% from ore to payable cobalt.
