I think this story has the potential to bring down the President.
If there are links found between the Republican party and the conspiracy to influence the election charges will follow.
Trumps firing of F.B.I. director James Comey, and Trump adamantly denying any election interference, calling it “phony,” a “hoax,” “fake news,” a “witch hunt,” is a pretty big smoking gun.

Nixon’s administration was facing obstruction of justice charges in the 70’s.
This is how the market behaved during the Watergate scandal.

There were other issues that would have affected the S&P during this time, including an OPEC oil embargo, and this chart shows only a few years of the S&P, and this isn't the 70's.
Will the Trump administration be able avoid scandal? who knows. The story looks like it is getting traction now though.
