Good point Goyco but you may find that there are other issues at play such as logistics buying billet (inputs). Smelters normally don't do small runs. You may also find that the cost of changing dies in extrusion presses mean that it is more cost effective doing longer runs (outputs). It is a good point and they should keep inventory (including scrap) at a bare minimum like all manufacturing businesses.
