yet Federal Labor opposes the coal mine,
I don't think what you have written there is true.
My understanding is that the Federal Labor party reps have a range of views on Adani.
Presently they haven't formulated a statement as they sit on the fence doing backflips, with by-elections approaching.
Something they will have to thrash out at one of their meetings of factions where policy is decided. later this year.
One thing seems clear to me.
Many Australians don't want subsidies to be given to the mine and associated infrastructure although some of those living in the region of the mine would welcome subsidies.
Also many existing mine owners are pushing the view that a new mine of that type, thermal coal, in the current market would be a zero sum game, impacting the economics of some existing mines that export their wares.
Many say the mine should stand on it's own merits.
