So when it's cheaper to import than generate locally it's imported.
If more renewables come on line logically more will be exported if interconnector capacity available however there are plans to turn surplus energy intro generating hydrogen
the State Government aims to firm the intermittent generation up with storage.
Interestingly for SA the time when minimum power is needed to be supplied to consumers occurs at a time around midday on a cool summers day when small scale solar is powering homes. Hence the need for adaptable grid management.
