For anyone confused.
The shorter would have borrowed the shares before the 21st Feb. They then would have sold them for a max price of $8.71 (the highest price before the big rise on 22/2) They then woudl have been looking for a dip to buy (and cover) their sales.
Unfortunately for the shorters, the profit Ann and the Fonterra Ann meant that the price was never going to drop and spiked up to $13.xx at one point. As seen above 9M bought/covered on 22 and abut the same on 23...they would have had a pay a difference of about $3 minimum to cover their shorts.
