Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense Suggests Candidates For 9 Ministerial Posts (13:40, Tuesday, December 11, 2007)
Ukrainian News Agency The parliamentary faction of the Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense Bloc has named its candidates for the posts of nine ministers in the new Cabinet of Ministers.
OU-PSD faction member Volodymyr Ariev made this statement to the press.
He said the discussion of candidates by the heads of the parliamentary coalition and President Viktor Yuschenko at his Secretariat is under way.
The lawmaker said the bloc suggests electing Yurii Melnyk as minister of agricultural policy, Volodymyr Novytskyi as minister of industrial policy, Ivan Vakarchuk as minister of education and science, Vasyl Kniazevych as minister of health, Oleksii Kucherenko as minister of housing and utility economy, Vasyl Kuibida as minister for regional development and construction, and Yurii Pavlenko as minister of youth and sports.
Ariev added that MPs Iryna Heraschenko and Oksana Bilozir are competing for the post of culture minister, and Anatolii Hrytsenko and Oleksandr Kikhtenko for the post of defense minister.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the blocs of Yulia Tymoshenko and Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense joined into the Coalition of Democratic Forces in parliament on November 29.
Under parliament regulations, the government is appointed on a parity basis, 50:50, with the President nominating candidates for the posts of ministers of foreign affairs, defense, internal affairs, Prosecutor-General and Security Service chief.
