no doubt those observing from afar, courtesy of the media, will pick up on whether the governments policies are negative towards other races or not. But it is the first hand experiences of visitors here either as students or tourists that will carry the most weight with regards to the perceived attitudes of the ordinary Australian citizen. That is why people such as those who initiated what turned into the RICE program that I wrote about earlier in this thread, felt the urgent need to correct the bad image being left in the minds of many students all those years ago. The irony that may have escaped you, given your impression of all things Liberal, is that it was the people from a strongly Liberal environment, all strongly Liberal, that had to take action to correct the negative images created by those people typically from a strongly Labor environment.
